Understanding Gender Roles Through South Asian Media

Nowadays, it is important to acknowledge the role popular culture and mass media in shaping discussions around their identity and social issues faced by south Asian communities and why an accurate representation is important here.

By the end of the course, you will
  • What we see? You will be able read, learn, and discuss South-Asian identities in popular culture and observe a pattern of underlying assumptions in mass media.

  • How we see it? Understanding the role of popular culture/media in shaping gender roles in south Asian society and how that impacts society as a whole

  • What can we change? Question the role and influence of popular culture in recognising or highlighting gender stereotypes.
