The Descent of Mind

What will I Learn?

Every Friday, Saturday between Dec 18 to Jan 3
07:00 pm to 08:00 pm IST

From early man to the modern Homo sapiens, the evolutionary journey of humans has been a long and winding path, not just genetically, but also in terms of our behavior, communication and relationships. Why do we speak language and who creates it? How does the behaviour of other intelligent creatures like whales resemble and differ from that of humans? How have primitive human fears carried over to the present day? How has our way of thinking about thinking changed?Over this course, students will understand that evolution isn’t only about science, it includes recognising psychology, intelligence and language over the course of space and time. "

By the end of the course, you will
  • Trace the evolution of human language, behaviour and society over time

  • See the connections between human behaviour and that of other evolved organisms

  • Understand how this evolution has shaped much of humanity’s inventions, organizations and bonds with other animals
